Possible Causes
Failed compressor start relay, Faulty PTC starter, Seized compressor, Overloaded mains circuit or low voltage
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker. Do not attempt to open or solder sealed refrigeration components.
- Check power supply: Ensure the unit is plugged directly into a grounded wall outlet (no extension cords) and that the circuit is not overloaded with other heavy appliances.
- Allow cool-down: If the compressor has overheated, leave the unit unplugged for at least 30 minutes, then try again.
- Listen for compressor: When powered on, listen for a brief hum followed by a click. Rapid clicking or no sound may indicate a failed start relay or PTC.
- If E8 repeats: The compressor start device or compressor itself may be faulty. These parts are attached to the compressor at the rear and should only be serviced by a qualified refrigeration technician.
