Possible Causes
Defective evaporator NTC sensor clipped to evaporator plate, Sensor wire damaged by ice buildup or rubbing on metal, Loose or corroded sensor connector at control PCB, Failed control PCB interpreting sensor signal incorrectly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect the ice maker from mains power before removing covers or touching internal components.
Steps to troubleshoot E2:
- Defrost the unit: If there is heavy ice buildup on the evaporator plate, unplug the unit and allow it to fully defrost for at least 1–2 hours. Wipe away melt water and restart. Excess ice can stress or dislodge the sensor.
- Access the evaporator area: Remove the top or rear cover (depending on model) to expose the stainless steel evaporator plate and surrounding wiring.
- Locate the evaporator sensor: Look for a small probe or bullet-style NTC sensor clipped or taped to the evaporator plate with two thin wires leading back to the control board.
- Check mounting and wiring: Ensure the sensor is firmly attached to the evaporator surface and not hanging loose. Inspect the wire for cuts, nicks, or crushed sections. Reseat the connector at the control PCB.
- Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. Compare to typical NTC values at room temperature. A reading of infinite (open) or near 0 Ω indicates a failed sensor.
- Replace faulty parts: If the sensor is defective, replace the evaporator NTC temperature sensor. If the sensor tests correctly but E2 remains, the main control PCB may be faulty and require replacement.
Note: Handle the evaporator plate carefully to avoid bending or puncturing the refrigeration circuit.
