E4 displayed, ice maker stops, water tray may be out of position

Safety: Disconnect the appliance from power before adjusting internal parts.

Steps to fix E4:

• Check tray position: Open the lid and inspect the water tray. It should sit level in its home position. If it is tilted or stuck mid-rotation, gently move it back to the central, level position.
• Remove obstructions: Look for stray ice cubes, mineral deposits, or foreign objects blocking the tray or its hinges. Remove any obstruction and wipe the area clean.
• Inspect tray hinges and linkage: Check that the tray pivots freely on its hinges and that the drive linkage to the tray motor is intact and not bent.
• Check the tray position switch: Locate the small micro-switch or sensor that detects the tray home position. Ensure the actuator is not broken and that the switch is firmly mounted. Manually move the tray to see if it properly engages the switch.
• Test the switch (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the switch and test continuity with a multimeter while actuating it. Replace if it fails to open/close correctly.
• Test the tray motor: If the tray does not move at all during startup, the tray drive motor may be faulty. Access the motor from the side or bottom, check wiring, and test for continuity. Replace if open or seized.

Note: Do not force the tray with excessive pressure; you can crack the plastic or damage the motor gears.
