E6 displayed, ice maker stops, water pump may not run or runs dry

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before working on the water system.

Steps to resolve E6:

• Check water level: Ensure the reservoir is filled to the correct MAX line with clean, potable water. Low water can trigger E6 on some models.
• Reset and listen: After refilling, plug the unit back in and start a cycle. Listen for the water pump humming. If it is silent, the pump may be faulty or not receiving power.
• Clean the reservoir and filter: Remove the ice basket and inspect the water intake area. Many Russell Hobbs ice makers have a small mesh filter or screen at the pump inlet. Clean any scale, slime, or debris with warm water and a soft brush.
• Check the float or level sensor: If your model uses a float, ensure it moves freely up and down and is not stuck by mineral deposits. Clean and free it if necessary.
• Access the pump: Remove the lower or side panel to reach the water pump. Check for kinks in the silicone hoses and ensure all clamps are secure.
• Test the pump (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the pump and measure coil resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed pump. Also check for blockages in the pump impeller.
• Replace components: Replace a defective circulation water pump or water level sensor/float switch as needed.
