E8 displayed, ice size selection not working correctly, unit may stop mid-cycle

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before touching internal metal parts or sensors.

Steps to troubleshoot E8:

• Clean the evaporator and probe: Open the lid and locate the stainless steel evaporator fingers or plate. Identify the small metal or plastic probe that senses ice thickness. Clean both the evaporator and probe with a soft cloth soaked in a mixture of warm water and mild vinegar to remove mineral deposits.
• Check probe position: Ensure the thickness sensor is correctly positioned at the edge of the ice formation area and not bent away or touching other components.
• Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control PCB. Look for cuts, pinches, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector firmly.
• Run a test cycle: After cleaning and reassembly, plug the unit back in and run a cycle. Observe whether the ice size selection now works and if E8 reappears.
• Advanced testing: If you have a multimeter and the service data, you can measure the sensor's resistance or voltage output. If readings are out of specification, the sensor is likely faulty.
• Replace components: Replace a defective ice thickness sensor/probe. If the sensor is good but the error persists, the main control PCB may be defective.

Tip: Regular descaling of the ice-making area helps prevent sensor errors and improves ice quality.
