Possible Causes
Loss of refrigerant due to leak, Weak or failed compressor, Blocked capillary tube, Faulty compressor start relay
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not attempt to open the sealed refrigeration system yourself. Refrigerant handling requires certification.
Checks:
- Confirm cycle: Listen for the compressor starting (a low humming sound) a few minutes after starting a cycle. If the compressor never starts, test the compressor start relay/PTC and replace if faulty.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate airflow around the unit and clean the condenser coil.
- Touch test: After 10–15 minutes of operation, carefully feel the condenser coil at the back. It should be warm. If the compressor is running but the condenser stays cool and the evaporator never frosts, there may be a refrigerant issue.
- Call a technician: Suspected refrigerant leaks, blocked capillary tubes, or compressor failure require professional sealed system service. In many countertop ice makers, replacement is more economical than repair.
