Possible Causes
Open-circuit NTC sensor on evaporator plate, Shorted NTC sensor on evaporator plate, Damaged sensor wiring harness to control PCB, Faulty control PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the Severin ice maker from the mains before opening any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to power.
- Power reset: Unplug the ice maker for 10 minutes, then plug it back in and try a new cycle. Sometimes E1 can be triggered by a temporary sensor reading error.
- Access the sensor: Remove the rear or side cover (depending on model) to access the evaporator/ice-making plate. The NTC sensor is usually clipped or glued to the evaporator surface with two thin wires leading to the control PCB.
- Check connections: Inspect the sensor plug at the control PCB and at the evaporator. Reseat the connector and look for corrosion, broken insulation, or pulled wires.
- Test the sensor: With a multimeter set to resistance (ohms), measure the NTC sensor at room temperature. Typical NTCs used by Severin are in the 5–20 kΩ range at 25°C. If the reading is infinite (open) or near 0 Ω (short), the sensor is defective.
- Check harness: If the sensor measures correctly at its leads but not at the PCB connector, the wiring harness is damaged. Inspect for pinched or cut wires along the routing path.
- Replace faulty parts: Replace the evaporator NTC sensor or the complete sensor harness if damaged. If a known-good sensor still triggers E1, the control PCB sensor input is likely defective and the PCB should be replaced.
