Possible Causes

Failed compressor start relay, Open thermal overload protector on compressor, Faulty compressor windings, Defective control PCB compressor driver relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect the ice maker from mains power. Allow the compressor area to cool before touching.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the Severin ice maker has at least 10 cm clearance around the sides and back. Overheating can trip the compressor overload and cause E2.
  • Inspect power and cord: Confirm the outlet is delivering correct voltage and the power cord is not damaged.
  • Access compressor compartment: Remove the rear cover to expose the compressor, start relay, and overload protector.
  • Check start relay and overload: Remove the relay/overload assembly from the compressor terminals. Shake the relay gently; if it rattles excessively or smells burnt, replace it. Test continuity through the overload protector with a multimeter; it should be closed (low resistance) at room temperature.
  • Test compressor windings: With the relay removed, measure resistance between the three compressor pins (C, S, R). You should see low but non-zero resistance between each pair and no continuity to ground. Open or shorted windings indicate a failed compressor.
  • Replace components: If the relay or overload is faulty, replace with a compatible Severin compressor start device. If these are good but the compressor does not start and E2 persists, the control PCB relay or triac may be defective and the PCB should be replaced.
