Possible Causes
Dirty water reservoir, Biofilm or scale in water lines, Use of flavored or mineral-rich water, Storage of ice with strong-smelling foods nearby
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before cleaning. Do not use harsh chemicals inside the water system.
- Empty and clean reservoir: Discard all water and ice. Wash the reservoir with warm water and mild dish soap, then rinse thoroughly.
- Descale water path: Fill the reservoir with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water. Run a few cycles, then discard the ice and drain. Rinse with clean water and run additional cycles to remove any vinegar taste.
- Clean ice basket and interior: Wash the ice basket and wipe the interior surfaces with a soft cloth and mild detergent. Rinse and dry.
- Use fresh water: Always use fresh, cold drinking water. Avoid flavored, carbonated, or heavily mineralized water.
- Isolate from odors: Do not store the ice maker near strong-smelling chemicals or foods. Odors can be absorbed by ice.
