Possible Causes
Faulty compressor start relay, Defective compressor inverter module, Open compressor winding, Main control board compressor driver failure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power before accessing rear service panel. Avoid touching refrigerant lines when hot.
Diagnostic steps:
- Listen for start attempts: Restore power briefly and listen at the back. A repeated clicking every few minutes suggests a failed start relay or locked compressor.
- Check condenser fan: If the condenser fan runs but the compressor stays silent, suspect the start device or inverter.
- Inspect start relay / PTC: Unplug the unit, remove the rear lower panel, and locate the compressor. Remove the plastic cover on the compressor terminals and pull off the Siemens start relay/overload assembly. Shake it gently; if it rattles or smells burnt, replace the start relay/overload kit.
- Measure compressor windings: With a multimeter, measure resistance between the three compressor pins (C, R, S). None should be open or shorted to ground. If windings are open or shorted, the compressor is defective.
- Inverter module (if equipped): Some Siemens models use an external inverter board. Inspect for burnt components or bulging capacitors. If the inverter has supply voltage but no output to the compressor, replace the inverter module.
Note: Sealed system and compressor replacement require certified refrigeration service and proper tools.
