Possible Causes

Shorted or open NTC sensor, Corroded sensor connector, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty ADC input on main PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before testing sensors.

How to proceed:

  • Identify sensors: SMEG ice makers typically use NTC sensors on the evaporator plate, in the cabinet, and sometimes in the sump.
  • Visual inspection: Check each sensor for physical damage, corrosion, or broken insulation. Ensure the sensor tip is properly attached to the surface it monitors.
  • Measure resistance: Disconnect each suspect sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. Compare readings to SMEG's specification chart. A reading of infinite (open) or near zero (short) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Check harness and plugs: Inspect connectors for bent pins or moisture. Clean and dry as needed, then reseat firmly.
  • Replace faulty sensor: Install a new OEM NTC sensor in the same location and routing. Secure it with the original clip or bracket to ensure accurate temperature sensing.
  • Reset error: Restore power and clear the error via the control panel. If the E09 returns immediately, the PCB input circuit may be defective and require replacement.
