How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and follow all chemical safety instructions for descaling agents. Wear gloves and eye protection.
Cleaning procedure:
- Use SMEG-approved cleaner: Only use descaling products recommended by SMEG for ice makers. Do not use vinegar or strong acids unless specified.
- Run full cleaning cycle: Follow the user manual to start a cleaning/descaling cycle. Ensure the correct amount of cleaner is added to the reservoir.
- Inspect for scale: After cleaning, remove internal covers and visually inspect the evaporator plate, sump, and spray nozzles for remaining white or brown scale. Repeat cleaning if necessary.
- Check circulation: During cleaning, verify that the circulation pump is running and that cleaner is reaching all areas. Clear any blockages in spray tubes or channels.
- Sensor check: If the E17 error persists despite thorough cleaning, the scale or turbidity sensor (if fitted) may be faulty and require replacement.
