Possible Causes
Blocked water pump inlet, Jammed pump impeller, Failed water circulation pump, Loose pump wiring connector
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker and drain water from the reservoir before removing internal parts.
- Access the pump: Remove the ice basket and top cover to reach the water reservoir. The pump is usually located at the bottom of the reservoir with a small outlet hose leading to the evaporator tray.
- Check for debris: Remove the pump inlet screen or cover and inspect for scale, slime, or foreign objects (plastic, labels, etc.). Clean thoroughly with warm water and a soft brush.
- Spin the impeller: Gently rotate the pump impeller with a non-metallic tool to ensure it moves freely. If it is seized, soak in warm vinegar solution to dissolve mineral deposits, then try again.
- Inspect hoses: Confirm the outlet hose from the pump to the ice tray is not kinked or blocked. Flush with water if needed.
- Reconnect and test: Reassemble, refill the reservoir, plug in, and start a cycle. Listen for the pump running when the unit begins to make ice.
If the pump does not run or E6 returns, the water pump motor is likely defective and should be replaced.
