Possible Causes
Misadjusted ice thickness probe, Scale buildup on thickness sensor, Broken or disconnected thickness sensor, Faulty control board input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power before working near the evaporator or moving parts.
- Locate the ice thickness sensor: On many Swan ice makers, this is a metal or plastic probe positioned near the evaporator plate or ice grid, sometimes part of a swing arm that contacts the ice.
- Clean the probe: Mineral scale can insulate the sensor. Use a cloth soaked in a 1:1 vinegar and water solution to wipe the probe and surrounding area. Rinse with a damp cloth and dry.
- Check position: Ensure the probe is correctly aligned per the user manual—typically a few millimetres from the evaporator surface or at a specific height above the tray. Gently bend or adjust only if the design allows.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor wires back to the control board and confirm the connector is secure.
- Run a test cycle: Reassemble, plug in, and observe one full ice cycle to see if the error reoccurs.
If E7 persists, the ice thickness sensor assembly may need replacement. In rare cases, the control PCB is at fault.
