Possible Causes

Dirty water reservoir, Biofilm in water lines, New plastic odour from internal parts, Use of non-potable water

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the unit before cleaning. Do not use harsh solvents inside the ice maker.

  • Drain and rinse: Empty the reservoir and ice basket. Rinse the reservoir with warm water.
  • Deep clean: Prepare a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts warm water. Wipe the reservoir, ice basket, scoop, and water distribution tray thoroughly. Allow to soak for 10–15 minutes, then rinse several times with clean water.
  • Clean internal lines: If your Swan model has a cleaning cycle, run it with the vinegar solution, then run at least two full cycles with fresh water and discard the ice.
  • Use filtered water: For ongoing use, fill with filtered, potable water to reduce mineral and taste issues.

Persistent musty odours may indicate mould growth in inaccessible areas; if cleaning does not resolve it, consider professional service or replacement.
