Possible Causes

Open-circuit cabinet NTC sensor, shorted cabinet NTC sensor, damaged sensor wiring harness, failed main control PCB sensor input

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the Tower ice maker before opening any panels. Do not work on the unit while it is connected to mains power.

  • Power reset: Unplug the unit for 5 minutes, then plug it back in to see if E1 clears. If it returns immediately, continue.
  • Access the sensor: Remove the rear or side service panel (depending on model). Locate the cabinet temperature sensor (NTC) clipped to the evaporator plate or inner liner, connected by two small wires to the control board.
  • Inspect wiring: Check for broken, pinched, or corroded wires and loose connectors between the NTC sensor and the main control PCB. Reseat the connector firmly.
  • Test the sensor: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter. Compare to the service chart (typical NTC: ~5–20 kΩ at room temperature). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
  • Replace if faulty: If resistance is out of range, replace the cabinet NTC temperature sensor with a compatible Tower part. Route the new sensor wiring away from sharp edges and moving parts.
  • Check control board: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the main control PCB sensor input may be defective. Inspect the board for burn marks or corrosion and replace the control PCB if necessary.
