Possible Causes
Misadjusted ice thickness probe, scaled probe surface, failed thickness sensor, wiring harness damage, control PCB calibration error
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker before adjusting or cleaning the thickness sensor.
- Locate thickness probe: Find the metal or plastic probe near the evaporator plate that senses ice thickness or water level on the grid.
- Clean the probe: Remove mineral buildup using a cloth soaked in white vinegar. Rinse with clean water and dry.
- Check adjustment: Some Tower models have an adjustable screw or bracket for ice thickness. Refer to the service manual and set the probe to the recommended distance from the evaporator surface.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the probe wires to the control board and ensure there are no breaks or loose connectors.
- Test operation: After cleaning and adjustment, plug in and run a cycle. If E14 persists, replace the ice thickness sensor/probe assembly.
