Possible Causes
Misaligned ice thickness probe, Scale buildup on probe, Faulty thickness sensor, Damaged sensor wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the ice maker before reaching into the ice-making chamber.
Steps to resolve E9:
- Locate the thickness probe: In the ice-making chamber, find the metal or plastic sensor arm/probe that detects ice thickness near the evaporator plate.
- Clean the probe: Use a soft cloth and a food-safe descaling solution (or vinegar/water mix) to remove mineral deposits from the probe surface.
- Check alignment: Ensure the probe is positioned correctly relative to the evaporator plate as specified in the Tristar manual. Gently bend or adjust only if the design allows.
- Inspect wiring: Trace the probe wires back to the control board. Confirm there are no cuts or loose connectors.
- Replace sensor if needed: If cleaning and alignment do not resolve the issue, install a new Tristar ice thickness sensor / probe.
- Reassemble and test: Restore power and run several cycles, checking that cube size is consistent and E9 does not reappear.
