Safety Warning
This repair may involve working with high voltage components or water connections. Always unplug the appliance before removing any panels.
If you are not confident in your ability to perform this repair safely, we strongly recommend contacting a professional technician.
Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the ice maker. The compressor and condenser can be hot; allow them to cool before touching.
Steps to address E5:
- 1. Improve ventilation: Ensure the Vremi ice maker has at least 6 inches (15 cm) of clearance on all sides and is not placed in a confined cabinet. Move it away from heat sources.
- 2. Clean condenser coils: Remove the rear cover to access the condenser. Use a soft brush or vacuum to remove dust and lint from the coils and fan guard.
- 3. Check condenser fan: Spin the fan blade by hand (with power disconnected). It should move freely. If stiff or seized, the condenser fan motor may need replacement.
- 4. Inspect overload protector: The compressor overload/thermal protector is usually clipped to the side of the compressor. Check for signs of burning or melting. Reseat the connector.
- 5. Test fan operation: Reassemble, plug in, and start a cycle. Confirm the fan runs whenever the compressor is on. If the fan does not run, test and replace the fan motor.
- 6. Replace overload (advanced): If the compressor is cool but E5 persists and the overload is suspected, replace the compressor overload protector with a compatible part.
Important: If the compressor is extremely hot, cycles on and off rapidly, or hums without starting, there may be a sealed-system or compressor failure. This requires a professional with refrigeration certification.
