Possible Causes
Residue from manufacturing in reservoir and lines, Stagnant water in tank, Mold or biofilm in water path, Use of heavily chlorinated tap water
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before deep cleaning. Discard any ice made during cleaning.
Cleaning steps:
- 1. Initial flush (for new units): Wash the reservoir with warm soapy water, rinse thoroughly, and run at least 2–3 full baskets of ice, discarding the ice.
- 2. Descale and sanitize: Fill the reservoir with a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part water. Run a full cycle, then let the solution sit in the system for 30 minutes. Drain and rinse with clean water.
- 3. Clean internal surfaces: Wipe the ice basket, evaporator, and interior walls with a food-safe sanitizer or diluted vinegar solution. Rinse and dry.
- 4. Use filtered water: Switch to filtered or bottled water to reduce chlorine and mineral content.
Note: Persistent musty odors may indicate mold growth; repeat sanitizing or replace the reservoir if odors remain.
