“dr” or drain code appears on built-in Whynter ice maker, unit may stop

Safety: Unplug the unit before working on the drain system. Water may spill; have towels ready.

Steps to resolve dr:

• Inspect drain hose: Check the external drain hose for kinks, clogs, or ice blockage. Straighten and clear as needed.
• Check drain height: Ensure the drain hose is not routed higher than recommended; excessive lift can overload the pump.
• Clean internal drain: Remove the ice bin and interior panels as needed to access the internal drain pan and pump inlet. Clear any debris or ice.
• Test pump: With the unit reassembled, briefly plug in and start a drain cycle (if available). Listen for the pump. If it hums but does not move water, it may be jammed or failed.
• Replace pump: If the pump is not running or is seized, replace the drain pump with a compatible Whynter part.
