Possible Causes

Stuck mechanical float, Faulty water level sensor, Mineral buildup on float assembly, Disconnected or damaged sensor wiring

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker and turn off water supply (if plumbed) before servicing.

Steps to resolve E3:

  • Check water reservoir: Remove the ice basket and inspect the water reservoir. Ensure it is filled to the proper level and that nothing is obstructing the float.
  • Clean the float: Locate the float or water level sensor assembly in the reservoir. If it is coated with scale or slime, clean it with warm water and a mild vinegar solution. Move the float up and down to ensure it moves freely.
  • Inspect sensor wiring: Follow the wires from the float/sensor to the control board. Look for loose connectors or damaged insulation. Reseat the connector.
  • Test the float switch: With the unit unplugged, disconnect the float switch and check continuity with a multimeter while moving the float. It should open and close reliably. Replace if it does not change state.
  • Reassemble and test: Reinstall the float assembly, refill the reservoir, plug in the unit, and run a test cycle to see if E3 clears.
  • Control board check: If the float switch tests good but E3 persists, the water level input circuit on the control board may be faulty and the board may need replacement.
