Safety: Unplug the unit before accessing the ice tray or motor assembly.
Steps to resolve E8:
- Inspect ice tray: Open the ice-making compartment and check if the tray is jammed with oversized ice, misaligned, or blocked by foreign objects.
- Clear obstructions: Remove any stuck ice or debris. If ice is fused to the tray, allow it to melt with warm (not hot) water and dry the area.
- Check tray movement: Gently move the tray by hand (if design allows). It should pivot smoothly without grinding or binding.
- Access motor: Remove the cover over the harvest/tray motor. Inspect the motor and gear train for broken teeth or stripped gears.
- Test motor: With the unit unplugged, check motor coil resistance with a multimeter. An open circuit indicates a failed motor.
- Inspect wiring: Verify the motor connector is firmly attached to the control board and that wires are intact.
- Replace motor assembly: If the motor is open, seized, or gears are damaged, replace the ice tray motor assembly with a compatible Whynter part.
