Possible Causes

Loose wiring harness between display and main PCB, Corrupted control board firmware, Failed main control PCB, Moisture intrusion on control electronics

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the ice maker before removing the control panel or accessing the electronics.

Steps to troubleshoot E9:

  • Power cycle: Unplug the unit for at least 10 minutes to allow capacitors to discharge, then plug back in. If E9 returns, continue.
  • Inspect control panel: Remove the front control panel or top cover to access the display board and main control PCB.
  • Check harness connections: Reseat all multi-pin connectors between the display board, sensor harnesses, and main control board. Ensure they are fully seated and locked.
  • Look for moisture or corrosion: If there are signs of water ingress (condensation, rust, or white residue), dry the area thoroughly and clean corrosion with contact cleaner.
  • Visual board inspection: Examine the main PCB for burnt components, cracked solder joints, or bulging capacitors. Any visible damage usually requires board replacement.
  • Replace control board: If wiring is intact and E9 persists, replace the main control PCB (and display board if sold as a kit) with the correct Whynter part number.
