Whynter
Excessive Ice Thickness
Ice cubes are too large and may jam the mechanism
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Ice thickness sensor misadjusted, Scale buildup on evaporator causing poor release, Control board not terminating freeze cycle correctly
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the unit before adjusting sensors or cleaning the evaporator.
Steps to correct oversized ice:
- Adjust thickness setting: If your Whynter model has a thickness or size control, reduce the setting to shorten the freeze time.
- Clean evaporator: Mineral scale can cause ice to stick and grow too large. Use a soft brush and a vinegar solution to clean the evaporator surface, then rinse and dry.
- Check thickness probe: Ensure the ice thickness sensor is correctly positioned and not bent too far from the evaporator.
- Control board: If adjustments and cleaning do not help and the unit continues to over-freeze, the control board may be mis-timing the cycle and could require replacement.
