Possible Causes
Blocked grease filters, Incorrect blower orientation, Obstructed ductwork, Failing exhaust fan motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave or switch off the circuit breaker before servicing an over-the-range (OTR) unit.
- Clean filters:
- Remove and clean the metal grease filters with warm soapy water.
- Replace charcoal filters if equipped and saturated.
- Check blower orientation:
- On some Black+Decker OTR models, the blower can be rotated for recirculating or external venting.
- Verify it is installed in the correct orientation per the installation manual.
- Inspect ductwork:
- Check for crushed or blocked ducts above the microwave.
If airflow remains poor and the fan is noisy or slow, the exhaust fan motor may need replacement.
