Possible Causes

Metal object or foil in cavity, Damaged or burned waveguide cover, Exposed metal on cavity wall, Food splatter carbonized on walls

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Stop the microwave immediately by pressing STOP/CANCEL and unplug it. Do not continue to run while arcing occurs.

  • Remove metal objects:
    • Ensure no metal utensils, foil, twist ties, or metal-trimmed dishes are inside.
  • Inspect waveguide cover:
    • Locate the small mica or plastic cover on the side wall or ceiling.
    • If it is burned, cracked, or has holes, replace it with a Black+Decker-compatible waveguide cover.
  • Clean cavity:
    • Remove all food splatter and grease with a mild cleaner.
    • Pay special attention to corners and around the waveguide cover.

If arcing persists after cleaning and replacing the waveguide cover, the cavity coating may be damaged and the unit should be inspected by a technician.
