Possible Causes
Worn membrane keypad, Moisture ingress behind control panel, Loose ribbon cable between keypad and PCB, Faulty control PCB keypad interface
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Unplug the microwave before removing any panels.
- Power reset: Leave the microwave unplugged for 5–10 minutes to allow the control board to reset. Plug back in and test the keypad.
- Check for moisture: If the keypad error appeared after heavy steam cooking, leave the door open and allow the control panel area to dry for several hours. Do not use aggressive heat sources.
- Inspect keypad ribbon cable: Remove the control panel assembly (usually held by screws behind the trim or front frame). Locate the flat ribbon cable from the keypad to the control PCB. Reseat the connector carefully and ensure it is fully inserted.
- Test keypad: With the panel removed but still connected (and extreme care around live parts), press various buttons to see if response improves after reseating. If only certain keys fail consistently, the membrane keypad is likely defective.
- Replace keypad or control panel: On many Bush microwaves, the keypad is integrated into the fascia. Replace the keypad membrane or full control panel assembly as specified for your model.
