Possible Causes
Failed door interlock switch, Misaligned door latch hooks, Broken door latch bracket, Loose wiring to interlock switches
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave. Door interlock circuits are a critical safety system that prevents microwave radiation leakage. Do not bypass or jumper switches.
- Check door closure: Open and close the door firmly. Listen for distinct clicks from the interlock switches. If the door feels loose or does not latch solidly, the latch or hinges may be misaligned.
- Inspect door hooks and latch: Look at the plastic door hooks that engage the cabinet. If any are cracked or bent, the door may not fully engage the interlock switches and the latch assembly should be replaced.
- Test door switches (advanced): Remove the outer cabinet and the control panel to access the interlock switch cluster. With a multimeter, test each switch for proper continuity when the door is opened and closed. Replace any switch that does not change state correctly.
- Check wiring harness: Ensure all connectors to the interlock switches are tight and not heat-damaged.
- If all hardware checks good: The control board’s door-sense circuit may be faulty and require replacement.
