Possible Causes

Tripped magnetron thermal fuse, Blocked ventilation grills, Failed cavity temperature sensor (NTC), Cooling fan not running

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave. Internal components can retain high voltage; do not touch the high-voltage section. Allow the unit to cool for at least 30 minutes before inspection.

  • Step 1 – Check ventilation: Ensure the Severin microwave has the required clearance around sides, top, and rear as per the user manual. Remove any items blocking the rear or side vents. Clean dust from vents with a soft brush or vacuum.
  • Step 2 – Inspect cooling fan: Remove the outer cabinet. Locate the cooling fan near the magnetron and transformer. Spin the fan blades by hand; they should move freely. If seized or noisy, the fan motor may need replacement.
  • Step 3 – Check thermal cut-out and NTC sensor: Locate the thermal fuse/thermostat clipped to the magnetron or cavity. Using a multimeter, test for continuity. A blown thermal fuse will read open and must be replaced with the exact rating. Check the cavity NTC sensor (if fitted) for secure connection to the control board.
  • Step 4 – Clean internal airflow paths: Remove accumulated grease and dust from the fan shroud and air channels to improve cooling.
  • Step 5 – Reassemble and test: Refit the cabinet, plug in, and run at low power with a cup of water. If E02 reappears quickly, the magnetron or control board temperature sensing circuit may be faulty and should be evaluated by a professional.
