Possible Causes
Open or shorted NTC sensor, Loose sensor connector on control board, Damaged sensor wiring harness, Faulty control PCB analog input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the microwave before opening the cabinet. Avoid contact with the high-voltage section.
- Step 1 – Locate the NTC sensor: On many Severin microwaves with grill or convection, the cavity temperature sensor is mounted on the top or side of the cooking cavity, accessible from inside the cabinet.
- Step 2 – Inspect wiring: Trace the thin wires from the sensor to the control board. Check for cuts, burns, or loose connectors. Reseat the connector on the PCB.
- Step 3 – Test sensor resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure its resistance with a multimeter at room temperature. Compare to Severin service data (typically in the tens of kΩ). A reading of 0 Ω (short) or infinite (open) indicates a bad sensor.
- Step 4 – Replace sensor if faulty: Remove the mounting screw or clip, fit the new NTC sensor, and route the wires as originally installed, avoiding hot or sharp areas.
- Step 5 – Check control board if sensor is OK: If the sensor tests good but E05 persists, the control PCB input circuit may be defective and should be replaced by a technician.
