Possible Causes

Seized convection fan motor, Obstructed fan blades, Loose fan wiring, Faulty fan relay on control PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Unplug the microwave and allow it to cool before accessing the fan area.

  • Step 1 – Listen for fan operation: In convection or combination mode, you should hear the fan running. If silent or very noisy, suspect a fan issue.
  • Step 2 – Access the fan: Remove the outer cabinet. Locate the convection fan at the rear of the cavity. Check for foil, packaging, or grease buildup obstructing the blades.
  • Step 3 – Test fan movement: Spin the fan by hand. It should rotate freely. If stiff or jammed, the motor may be failing and should be replaced.
  • Step 4 – Electrical checks: Inspect wiring to the fan motor and test for continuity. If open, replace the motor. If the motor is good but not receiving voltage when commanded, the control board relay may be faulty.
  • Step 5 – Reassemble and test: After cleaning or replacing the fan, reassemble and test convection mode. If E12 persists, seek professional diagnosis of the control PCB.
