Possible Causes

Failed cooling fan motor, Stuck fan relay on control board, Obstructed fan blades, Loose wiring to fan motor

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Unplug the microwave before inspection.

Checks:

  • 1. Listen for fan operation: During a cook cycle, you should hear the cooling fan. If silent or unusually loud, there may be a problem.
  • 2. Inspect vents: Look through the rear or top vents to see if the fan is spinning when cooking. Do not insert objects into the vents.
  • 3. Internal inspection (for DIYers): Remove the outer cover (after unplugging). Check that the fan blades are not obstructed by wiring or debris and that the motor spins freely by hand.
  • 4. Wiring: Ensure the fan motor connectors are firmly seated.

If the fan motor is seized or has no continuity, replace it. If the fan runs constantly even when the unit is idle, the control board relay may be stuck and the board will need replacement.
