Possible Causes
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the cooker is unplugged while inspecting mechanical parts. Do not force the lid closed with excessive pressure.
- 1. Confirm lid orientation: Align the lid arrows or marks as indicated in the Chefman manual and rotate until you feel it lock. Some models require a firm twist to engage the lock sensor.
- 2. Inspect lid gasket: Remove the silicone sealing ring from the lid. Clean it and the groove thoroughly. Reinstall the ring evenly, ensuring it is not twisted. A mis-seated ring can prevent full closure.
- 3. Check for obstructions: Look for food debris or warped plastic around the lid locking lugs and the body rim. Clean and smooth any rough spots that interfere with locking.
- 4. Test lid switch (advanced): With the unit unplugged and bottom or side cover removed (depending on model), locate the lid position microswitch. Manually actuate it while checking continuity with a multimeter. Replace the switch if it does not change state when pressed.
- 5. Replace worn parts: If the lid tabs are visibly worn or cracked, or the hinge is loose, replace the lid assembly or hinge kit with a Chefman-compatible part.
If E5 persists after confirming proper closure and switch operation, the main control board may not be reading the lid sensor correctly and may require service.
