Possible Causes

Lid not fully closed or rotated, Stuck or broken lid lock mechanism, Faulty lid open/close microswitch, Debris preventing lid from seating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Ensure the cooker is unplugged while inspecting the lid mechanism. Do not force the lid closed with excessive pressure.

  • 1. Verify correct closing: Align the lid marks and rotate until you feel a positive lock. Some Chefman models require pressing down slightly while turning.
  • 2. Clean lid and rim: Wipe the stainless-steel rim of the cooker body and the underside of the lid. Remove any rice, beans, or food particles that may block full closure.
  • 3. Inspect lid lock: Observe the lid lock pin or hook while opening and closing. It should move freely. If it sticks, clean and lightly lubricate with a food-safe silicone lubricant (avoid excess).
  • 4. Check lid switch (advanced): With the unit unplugged and cover removed, locate the lid open/close microswitch. Manually actuate it and test continuity with a multimeter. Replace the switch if it fails to change state.

If the lid message remains even when the lid is clearly locked and the switch tests good, the control board input may be faulty and require replacement.
