Possible Causes

Blocked steam release valve, Clogged anti-block shield, Stuck float valve, Faulty pressure sensor on lid or main board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: If the unit is under pressure, keep hands and face away from the steam release. Turn off and unplug the cooker and allow pressure to drop naturally before servicing.

  • Clean steam release valve: Remove the steam release valve cap and wash it in warm soapy water. Ensure the vent hole is clear by running water through it.
  • Clean anti-block shield: Remove the metal anti-block shield (if present on your Emeril Lagasse model) from under the lid. Scrub away any food particles and reinstall securely.
  • Check float valve: Push the float valve up and down from inside the lid. It should move freely and drop under its own weight. Clean any residue and ensure the silicone cap is not deformed.
  • Test with water only: Add 2–3 cups of water, close the lid, set to a short pressure program, and observe. If E4 appears again with clean valves, the pressure sensor or its wiring may be faulty.
  • Do not bypass safety: Never attempt to block or modify the pressure relief system. If the error persists, have the pressure sensor assembly inspected and replaced by a professional.
