Possible Causes
Inner pot not seated correctly, Cooking with no or too little liquid, Burnt-on food causing hot spots, Faulty overheat protection circuit on control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and let it cool completely. Do not add water to a hot dry pot suddenly, as it may warp.
- Check inner pot seating: Remove the inner pot, inspect the bottom for warping or dents, then reseat it firmly on the heater plate. It should sit flat and rotate slightly without scraping.
- Inspect for burnt food: If food is heavily stuck or burnt to the bottom, soak the pot and clean it thoroughly. Wipe the heater plate with a soft, slightly damp cloth to remove residue, then dry completely.
- Verify liquid level: When pressure cooking or slow cooking, ensure you meet the minimum liquid requirement specified in the GreenPan manual (typically at least 1–2 cups of liquid).
- Reset and test: After cleaning and reseating, plug in the unit and run a short program with only water. If E4 appears again quickly, the overheat sensor or control board may be faulty.
- Do not bypass safety: Persistent E4 without obvious cause indicates a sensor or board issue. Have the unit inspected or the control board replaced by a professional.
