Possible Causes
Food residue on heater plate, New appliance burn-in, Melting plastic from lid or accessories, Electrical overheating in base
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you smell strong burning plastic or see smoke, unplug the cooker immediately and do not continue using it.
- New unit smell: A mild odor during the first few uses can be normal. Run a water-only cycle with a bit of vinegar to help dissipate.
- Clean thoroughly: With the unit unplugged and cool, clean the inner pot, lid, gasket, steam components, and heater plate area to remove any spilled food.
- Inspect plastic parts: Look for warped or discolored plastic on the lid, handles, or accessories that might be contacting hot surfaces.
If the smell is electrical (sharp, acrid) or accompanied by discoloration near vents, discontinue use and have the unit inspected by a technician.
