Possible Causes
Worn or incorrectly installed silicone sealing ring, Debris on lid or pot rim, Faulty float valve or float valve seal, Cracked inner lid or lid body
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure the cooker is cool and depressurized before opening the lid or handling valves.
- Inspect sealing ring: Remove the silicone gasket from the lid. Look for cuts, flattening, or hard spots. Clean it with warm soapy water, rinse, dry, and reinstall evenly. If it does not sit snugly, replace it with an original Oursson ring.
- Clean lid and pot rim: Wipe the stainless-steel rim of the inner pot and the mating surface on the lid. Even small food particles or oil can prevent sealing.
- Check float valve: Move the float valve up and down from inside the lid. It should move freely and not stick. Remove and clean the float valve and its silicone cap if accessible. Replace the cap if cracked or swollen.
- Test with water: Add 2–3 cups of water, close the lid, set a short pressure program, and observe. If steam continuously escapes around the lid or from the valve and E5 appears, the sealing components are likely faulty.
- Structural damage: If you see cracks in the inner lid plate or lid body around the valve, discontinue use and have the lid assembly replaced by a service center.
