Possible Causes
Defective lid NTC sensor, Broken flex cable between lid and main body, Loose connector on control PCB, Moisture ingress into lid sensor housing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power and let the lid cool completely before inspection.
- Clean lid area: Remove the inner lid and sealing ring (if removable). Clean steam vents and the metal plate on the underside of the lid. Dry thoroughly.
- Check for moisture: If the cooker was recently washed or steam-cleaned, leave the lid open for several hours to dry. Moisture in the sensor area can cause false E4 errors.
- Inspect flex cable (if visible): On some Philips models, a flat cable runs from the lid to the body. Check for pinching, cracks, or obvious damage near the hinge.
- Reset the unit: After drying, plug in the cooker and test a short program. If E4 clears, monitor for recurrence.
- Sensor replacement: If E4 persists, the lid NTC sensor or cable is likely faulty. Replacement requires opening the lid assembly and reconnecting a new Philips lid sensor to the main PCB. This is a complex repair and should be done by a service technician.
