Possible Causes
Failed lid temperature sensor, Broken or pinched lid sensor wiring in hinge, Moisture intrusion into lid sensor connector, Faulty main control board sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the cooker and let it cool. Do not attempt to disassemble the lid while it is hot or under pressure.
- 1. Clean and dry the lid: Remove the lid and inspect the underside. Wipe away condensation, food residue, or oil around the steam release and sensor area. Allow the lid to air dry thoroughly.
- 2. Check lid connection (if detachable lid with cable): Some PowerXL models have an electrical connector between the lid and body. Ensure this connector is fully seated and free of corrosion or bent pins.
- 3. Inspect lid sensor wiring: If accessible, open the lid cover (screws on the underside) and inspect the small temperature sensor near the steam path. Look for broken wires or loose connectors.
- 4. Test the lid sensor (advanced): Use a multimeter to measure resistance across the lid sensor leads. Compare to the bottom sensor; it should show a similar resistance range at room temperature. An open or shorted reading indicates a bad sensor.
- 5. Replace lid temperature sensor: If the sensor is defective, replace it with a compatible PowerXL lid sensor assembly. Route wires exactly as original to avoid pinching when the lid closes.
- 6. Control board check: If both lid and bottom sensors test good but E4 persists, the main control board may be misinterpreting sensor data and may need replacement by a qualified technician.
