Possible Causes
Failed pressure transducer on lid or body, Disconnected or damaged pressure sensor harness, Moisture or food residue in pressure sensor port, Faulty main control board ADC circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Unplug the unit and ensure it is completely depressurized before inspecting any pressure-related components.
- 1. Clean pressure sensor port: Locate the small port or channel leading from the cooking chamber to the pressure sensor (often near the steam release or float valve). Use a thin brush or pipe cleaner to remove any food residue blocking the port.
- 2. Inspect wiring: From the underside or lid (depending on model), trace the pressure sensor wires to the control board. Ensure the connector is fully seated and wires are not cut or pinched.
- 3. Dry out moisture: If the cooker was recently washed or exposed to heavy steam, allow it to dry for 24 hours with the lid open. Moisture in the sensor or connector can cause false E5 errors.
- 4. Test sensor voltage (advanced): With the unit unplugged, disconnect the pressure sensor and measure its resistance or, with power applied and extreme caution, measure the sensor output voltage according to the service data (typically 0.5–4.5 V range). A sensor that outputs no change or is shorted should be replaced.
- 5. Replace pressure sensor: Install a new PowerXL pressure sensor / transducer if the original is faulty. Ensure the sealing grommet or O-ring around the sensor port is properly seated to prevent leaks.
- 6. Control board replacement: If a known-good sensor still results in E5, the main control board's sensor input may be defective and require replacement by a professional.
