Possible Causes
Failed oven cooling fan motor, Blocked or restricted cooling vents, Faulty fan relay on control board, Open high-limit thermostat in cooling circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool before accessing internal components.
- Check fan operation: During a bake cycle, you should hear the internal cooling fan running. If you never hear it, the fan motor or its control circuit may be faulty.
- Inspect vents: Ensure front and rear ventilation openings are not blocked by cabinetry, foil, or debris. Clear any obstructions.
- Access fan assembly: Remove the rear panel (for wall ovens, you may need to pull the unit out) to access the cooling fan. Check for seized blades, obstructions, or signs of overheating.
- Test fan motor: With power disconnected, check the fan motor for continuity using a multimeter. An open motor should be replaced. Also inspect the high-limit thermostat in series with the fan, if present.
- Control board relay: If the fan motor and thermostat test good, the control board may not be energizing the fan relay and will likely need replacement.
Warning: Do not operate the oven with a non-functioning cooling fan; this can overheat electronics and surrounding cabinetry.
