Possible Causes
Faulty oven temperature sensor reading low resistance, Stuck bake or broil relay on EOC, Miscalibrated control, Poor airflow around sensor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: If the oven overheats severely or will not shut off, turn off the breaker immediately.
- Check with thermometer: Use an oven thermometer to compare actual temperature to the set temperature. If consistently high, proceed with checks.
- Test sensor: With power off, measure sensor resistance at room temperature and at a known elevated temperature if possible. Replace the sensor if readings are out of spec.
- Inspect control relays: Remove the control panel and inspect the EOC for stuck or welded relays (burn marks, melted plastic). Replace the EOC if relays are suspect.
- Calibrate: Use the oven's calibration feature to reduce temperature offset if hardware is good but temperature is only slightly high.
