Possible Causes
Failed broil igniter, Open broil circuit wiring, Defective oven safety valve broil section
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before accessing the broil burner and igniter.
Steps:
- Visual check: Start a broil cycle and observe the broil igniter (top of oven) through the vent or with the door slightly open if the manual allows. If it does not glow, the igniter or its wiring is suspect.
- Continuity test: With power OFF, disconnect the broil igniter and measure resistance. An open reading indicates a failed igniter.
- Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the igniter to the safety valve and EOC for damage.
- Safety valve test: If a new igniter glows but the burner does not light, the safety valve may not be opening on the broil side and should be replaced.
