Possible Causes
Weak or open bake igniter, Failed oven safety valve, Broken igniter wiring harness
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas supply and disconnect power before servicing. Gas leaks and ignition components are hazardous.
Steps:
- Observe igniter: With panels in place and power ON (if safe), start a bake cycle and watch the igniter through the oven bottom panel. If it does not glow or glows but the burner never lights after 60–90 seconds, the igniter is likely weak.
- Measure igniter current (advanced): Clamp an ammeter around one igniter lead. Most Premier gas ovens require ~3.2–3.6 A for the safety valve to open. If current is low, replace the igniter.
- Inspect wiring: Turn power OFF, remove the oven bottom and flame spreader, and inspect the igniter wiring for burns or breaks. Repair as needed.
- Safety valve: If a new igniter glows strongly but the burner still does not light, the oven safety valve may be defective and should be replaced.
Always handle igniters carefully; they are fragile ceramic components.
