Possible Causes
Melted wire insulation near elements, Plastic packaging left in oven, New range protective coatings burning off
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: If you suspect burning wiring (sharp, acrid smell), turn off power at the breaker immediately and do not use the oven until inspected.
Steps:
- Check for packaging: Once cool, inspect inside the oven and storage drawer for any leftover plastic, foam, or tape. Remove all foreign materials.
- New oven burn-in: For a new Premier oven, run an empty bake cycle at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation to burn off protective oils and coatings.
- Inspect wiring: If the smell is electrical, remove the rear panel and inspect wiring near the bake and broil elements and terminal block for melted insulation or charring. Repair or replace damaged wiring and components.
