Possible Causes
Failed bake heating element, Burned wire at bake element terminal, Open bake relay on EOC
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and verify the oven is cool before touching elements.
Steps:
- Visual inspection: Remove oven racks and inspect the bake element (bottom of oven). Look for breaks, blisters, or burn spots. Any visible damage means the element must be replaced.
- Continuity test: Remove the rear panel. Disconnect the two wires from the bake element terminals. Measure resistance across the element; a typical reading is 15–40 Ω. Infinite resistance indicates a failed element.
- Check wiring: Inspect wires and terminals for burns or loose connections. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Control output: If the element and wiring are good, the bake relay on the EOC may not be closing. With power ON and extreme caution (only if qualified), check for 240 VAC at the element when bake is commanded. No voltage with a call for heat indicates a bad EOC.
Replace the bake element first; it is the most common failure and relatively easy to change.
