Possible Causes
Failed NTC temperature sensor, Broken sensor wiring harness, Loose sensor connector at main PCB, Damaged sensor insulation from overheating
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Isolate the oven from mains power before removing any covers or panels.
- Locate the temperature sensor: Inside the oven cavity, look for a small metal probe (usually at the rear or top). From the rear of the oven, trace its two‑wire harness to the main control PCB.
- Check connections: Reseat the sensor plug at both the sensor end (if removable) and the main PCB. Ensure there are no loose or burnt pins.
- Test sensor resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance with a multimeter. A typical Salter NTC sensor will read around 1–1.5 kΩ at room temperature (exact value varies by model). If the meter shows open circuit (OL) or zero ohms, the sensor is faulty.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the harness for cuts, crushed sections, or melted insulation, especially where it passes near the grill element. Repair any damaged wiring with high‑temperature rated cable and proper connectors.
- Replace the sensor: If readings are out of range or intermittent when you gently flex the cable, replace the oven temperature sensor with the correct Salter spare part.
Warning: Never run the oven with the sensor disconnected or bypassed; this can cause uncontrolled overheating and fire risk.
