• Access bottom element: Depending on model, the lower element may be accessed from inside the cavity (under a base panel) or from the rear. Remove any screws and panels as needed.
• Visual inspection: Check the element for swelling, cracks, or burn marks. Any visible damage indicates replacement is required.
• Test continuity: Disconnect the element terminals and measure resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed element.
• Check selector switch (if fitted): On models with a mechanical function selector, inspect the switch for burnt contacts or loose spade connectors on the bottom‑heat position. Replace the selector switch if contacts are damaged.
• Replace element: Install a new Salter bottom oven element, ensuring all terminals are tight and insulated from the chassis.

Warning: Ensure the oven is stable and cannot tip while you work on the underside or rear.
